Your Google Business Profile and your website should say the same thing

For most local businesses, the Google Business Profile is the first thing a customer sees, and the website is the second. When the two disagree on your hours, phone number or address, customers lose trust, and so do search engines and AI assistants. Keeping them in sync is one of the cheapest wins in local marketing.
Why does consistency matter?
Search engines and assistants cross-check your business details across sources. Matching name, address and phone number everywhere is a long-standing local search signal, often called NAP consistency. When the details conflict, they have to guess which one is right, and a customer who drives over during hours your website says you are open, but your profile says you are closed, will not come back.
What should match exactly?
- Your business name, written the same way, without extra keywords added on one side only.
- Your address, including suite or unit numbers.
- Your main phone number.
- Your regular opening hours, and any special hours for holidays.
- Your website address on the profile, pointing to your current site, not an old one.
- Your main services or categories.
Where do mismatches usually come from?
Most mismatches happen after a change. You moved, switched phone numbers, cut back hours for the summer, or rebranded, and updated one place but not the other. Old directory listings and a website nobody has touched in years are the usual culprits.
How do I check mine?
Open your Google Business Profile and your website side by side and compare each item in the list above. Search for your business name on Google Maps from a phone, since that is what most customers see. Then search for your phone number to find old listings that still show outdated details.
